Calculate Your Conduit Fill Percentage
Advanced conduit area calculator for multiple wire sizes, custom dimensions, fill limits, capacity estimates, and downloadable reports.
1. Conduit Configuration
Type selection is descriptive; it does not set dimensions automatically.
For report identification only.
Enter the manufacturer's internal dimension.
Only used when Custom fill limit is selected.
2. Add Conductors or Cables
Enter the outside diameter of each insulated conductor or cable. Add separate rows for different sizes. Each row represents a group of equal-diameter items.
| Wire / cable description | Outside diameter (in) | Quantity |

The bar shows calculated occupied area relative to the conduit area. Values above 100% are visually capped.
Enter your dimensions and calculate the fill.
Estimates how many additional equal-diameter conductors could fit by area at the selected fill limit. This is not a physical packing or code-compliance guarantee.

4. Fill Percentage Comparison Chart
Compare the same entered conductor set at several hypothetical fill limits. This comparison is mathematical and does not establish which limit is permitted for your installation.
5. Detailed Conductor Area Breakdown
| Description | Outside diameter | Quantity | Area per item | Total area | Share of occupied area |

Calculation Formula
Conduit area = Ï€ × (inside diameter ÷ 2)²
Area per conductor = Ï€ × (outside diameter ÷ 2)²
Total occupied area = Sum of (quantity × area per conductor)
Fill percentage = (total occupied area ÷ conduit area) × 100
Area allowed = conduit area × selected fill limit ÷ 100
Important Code and Safety Notes
- Use actual internal conduit dimensions and actual insulated conductor or cable outside diameters.
- Common general NEC raceway-fill values are 53% for one conductor, 31% for two conductors, and 40% for more than two conductors. Applicable code rules, exceptions, raceway types, and installation details may change the requirements.
- The calculator uses circular cross-sectional area. It does not model physical packing, conductor arrangement, bends, pulling tension, or installation difficulty.
- The calculator does not determine ampacity, conductor derating, bonding, temperature suitability, or complete electrical-code compliance.
- Verify applicable NEC tables and notes, local regulations, and manufacturer documentation before using a result for installation.
